INTRODUCTION
Every Thanksgiving, the Sandia Grotto had a week-long caving trip to Slaughter Canyon in the Carlsbad Canyon backcountry.
Here are some photos from our trips.
Chimney Cave
The entrace to Chimney Cave is via a 70-foot rappel from the top of a large dome room.
Lake Cave
Lake Cave is a heavily-vandalized cave that is located high ion the rim of Slaughter Canyon.
IT had thousands of spectacular formations, but alas, most of them were harvested for sale.
Lake Cave still contains some other spectacular formations such as massive flowstone, rimstone dams and, of course, an undeground lake.
